Saturday: I had lunch with my Dad & brother shortly after I got up, & just wasn't hungry. So it's a good thing I was eating jelly. Like 3 teaspoons of it. I just was not hungry. Probably still full from last night. But I had a fruit smoothie. Then my brother & I headed over to the gym. Our arrangement works well for us, as we're both comfortable around each others, but not other people. So it works. & I remembered that my left hip & knee click terribly on bikes. Eeew. & painful. But it was great. =)
Hugh & I then had a cookie hunt around the house (sounds weird, but basically you just hide cookies & see how long it takes the other person to find them. You don't get to keep them if you find them, but it's still a great game). He gave me the clue of "You should know, you're a waitress." I checked the oven, fridge, where we keep the trays, cutlery . . . eventually I found them behind the table mats. Made me laugh, due to my comment with my Mom the other night about setting the table. Hilarious. But he actually is a really good hider.
We went out to the theatre in the evening to see The 39 Steps. I really loved the film so I was excited to see it, and it's won quite a few awards. We saw Lauren & New Steph walking past the bus station on our way out of town, which made me so glad I hadn't been working today!
While my Dad & brother went to park my Mom made me look round the gift shop. I've been in there once before in all the years we've been going there, but it's tiny & not much to look at. Afterwards we all got a drink & ordered interval drinks too. It was quite busy tonight - I think they had a production called 'Shakespeare's Wife' (or something along those lines) on in the smaller theatre.
The production followed pretty much along the film line (not the book plot though) & the technical aspects were really very good. Usually I pick up on something, but not this production. Unfortunately I didn't like it that much. There were a few really funny moments, but only a few. I don't want to say I'm disappointed, but actually it was a little disappointing. My family agreed though, so I don't feel too awkward saying it. But it was a lovely evening out with my family.
Sunday: I've decided I definitely prefer going to the gym in the morning. I am best mentally in the evening, but physically (especially after work) I am worn out by then. So gym again - we spoke to one of the PE teachers as he was leaving, & then pretty much had it to ourselves again. We turned on the radio part way through this time, but I'm not really a big fan of the music they play at the weekend.
We headed home after an hour, & found my parents cooking Sunday lunch. I originally told my Dad I wasn't hungry so not to make me much, but that was before. So I ate like the quorn & mini potatoes even though I'd originally thought I wouldn't want to. Go figure. Afterward we sorted out our diaries to fit in around each other, & Hugh got angry cos my parents told him he should get a job or some work experience. I think it's so important now, what with the way universities are, to actually go out and do something related to your area. So I think he really should, but I'm not going to force him. My Mom was really pushing him to though, & I think it upset him.
We went out to the cinema mid-afternoon to see 'The Blind Side' & ahhh I loved it!! I know bits were manipulated etc. etc. but I still thought it was sooo great. =) My brother's seen it a couple of times already online & said how much he loved it too. I always nag at him when he watches things online, but if he still goes to see it too then I guess that's not so bad. & I'm a bit of a hypocrite cos I watch things online too sometimes, but mostly TV episodes I've missed, or that won't be shown in the UK for like 6 freaking months.
"Hooters", Johns Pass, Madeira Beach, FL - Aug, 2011
Blackend Mahi-Mahi Sammich:
This new Hooters opened up @ John's Pass not too far from my house, so I and a friend decided to check it out. Big mistake!!!
Red Flag #1) They have a "hostess" who tells you where to sit - every other Hooters I've ever been in the first girl you see just tells you "Sit anywhere you like" - which is how ALL restaurants SHOULD be!
So, we walked right past the "hostess" and went to the bar - whomever owns this place put some money into it! This is really a nice looking Hooters, lots of the warm, woody accents you'd expect in a Hooters, a beautiful bar framed on all sides with 52 inch HD T.V.s, a nice view through large windows right behind the bar looking out onto John's Pass (an intra-coastal water-way that opens into the Gulf of Mexico), we thought we found our new "place".
The bartender SEEMED nice enough and had no trouble finding the Phillys game my friend requested on the T.V. right in front of us. We ordered our food - I wanted the BLACKEND Mahi-Mahi Sammich and six "3 Mile Island" wings UN-BREADED, My friend ordered 20 wings UN-BREADED (we both agree Hooter's "breading" is nasty, it just soaks-up a lot of grease and, I suspect, is supposed to make the wings look larger than they really are). After sitting there for 20 minutes or so I noticed the place wasn't very busy, a lot of empty chairs, AND this was on a Saturday night about 8 PM in one of the busiest tourist areas in Tampa Bay, Hmmmmm.
Our food finally showed-up 35 MINUTES after we ordered - now normally @ a Hooters this might not be such a big deal except the waitresses weren't friendly, and to be honest not very hot! Hey, it IS a Hooters!, points off for sour eye-candy! So we got our food and it looks good, right? (see photo) except it wasn't what I ordered - I wanted BLACKENED Mahi, this is just grilled. I waved the manager over and asked him to ID this menu item and he apologized and said he would take care of it right away, WITHIN 5 MINUTES! Now our wings show-up, BREADED! We tell the bartender these are wrong and she re-orders them and gets a little attitude with us - she asks if we need anything else, we say no we're fine, and she says, as she turns and walks away, "Thats LOVELY!" with a "high-rising", bitch tone in her voice.
I'm sorry you screwed-up our order - I'm just trying to spend money here!!!
My Mahi comes back, it's blackened, and I start eating, finally. About a third of the way in I notice the fish is RAW in the center! (remember the manager promised a new sammich within 5 minutes?, I'd rather he let it cook first, you know, SO I DON'T GET SICK FROM RAW SEAFOOD!!!). I walked over to the manager and told him the fish was raw, showed him the sammich, and he says "Well, I already took it off your bill" he took the Mahi away and never even offered me a Hamburger, some more wings, NOTHING!
A ruined meal for us because we chose Hooters!
Some places in Florida suffer from a variation of "Another sucker's born every minute!" syndrome, there's so many tourists, and new ones show-up all the time, some businesses don't really care about customer SERVICE because even if they piss-off a few people with crappy food and/or service there is always a new "sucker" coming down the sidewalk - I'm afraid this Hooters feels this way about customers.
But, like I said, they had a lot of empty chairs on a Saturday night!
-Update: I spoke to someone at the corporate office who was very apologetic about our experience this night and Hooter's took care of us.
